Tsunamis
By Garrett
There are many different types of natural disasters. I am going to talk about how to be prepared for a tsunami and what it is.
A tsunami is many ocean waves that travel to land. A tsunami can rise up to 100 feet tall. These huge waves can cause mass destruction when they hit the land. Tsunamis are caused by the shifting of major underground plates. Plates are what make up the earth’s crust. When a major underwater plate suddenly rises or falls it moves the water around it causing huge rolling waves. These waves become a tsunami.
To prepare for a tsunami, you need to know what to look for. Often before a tsunami, the water will move away from the shore. Small waves return the water to its original levels. The water continues to recede. Warn people right away. Get as far away and as high as possible. The top story of a building or high ground are recommended. Extreme force and severe flooding accompanies the waves and they easily overtake everything in its path.
I hope you learned about the signs of an approaching tsunami and how to be prepared to survive its wrath.
