Once Upon A Time
By Elise
Everybody knows fairy tales. Either you like them or you don’t. Sometimes fairy tales help people through tough times in their lives. Or, they give people hope of having a happy ending. Fairy Tales also give us answers to our questions when we’re in a time of need. This is their history.
Most people back in the old days looked at fairy tales as real. That’s because they are somewhat. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm (collectors and authors of well-known Fairy Tales) wrote fairy tales off of real objects they found interesting. For example Little Red Riding Hood could have been written based on a little red cloak. The Twelve Dancing Princesses could've been based on twelve girls who enjoyed dancing in Jacob and Wilhelm’s village. Fairy Tales are also related to some situations, for example in Jack and the Beanstalk when Jack traded his Uncle’s cow for a pouch of so called magic beans. That could have actually happened to someone Jacob and Wilhelm knew.
Fairy Tales originated as people told stories. The Brothers Grimm weren’t the first to tell the stories. They were just some of the first to write down the tales. True, they did write some of the tales, but most they heard from ancestors, friends, or their acquaintances. The Brothers Grimm were German academics. Jacob lived from 1785 to 1863 and Wilhelm lived from 1786 to 1859.
Although, the Brothers Grimm aren’t the only ones who collected Fairy Tales they are just a few that remembered all they heard. When they were younger they wrote down every story they heard and as they grew older they put them into a collection. You can still read their books today. Some stories have changed over the years, but most have kept to the original story line.
I hope you were informed in this article about how Fairy Tales were made, collected and shared. Even though Fairy Tales are from way back they still appear in people’s lives today. Please, go out and read some old, but good Fairy Tales. Remember they are important.
